1-800-SANDALS

No, this post is not brought to you by 1-800-SANDALS, but more by my realization that sandal season will be over before we know it. And as much as fashion people LOVE to talk about how much they can’t wait for boots and chunky sweaters, we have so little time to actually show off our pedicures…and that time is quite precious to me. So let’s talk about sandals…

I think we’re all pretty aware by now that between pool slides and Birkenstocks, the slide sandal is where it’s at. But if you need a little more support from your kicks, it’s not like you don’t have other options (news flash: you have a shit ton of options).

It’s funny that I look forward to summer so much yet I don’t actually wear flat sandals all that often (I feel like I’m just in slip-on sneakers and loafers all year round). Once I thought about why I don’t opt for sandals while putting an outfit together, I realized that the selection I’ve owned in the past was a little too colorful and funky (I now prefer simpler styles) or that they’ve been too trendy (Valentino yellow rock stud gladiator sandals did grace my feet for a very short period of time). So I wanted to share my sandal knowledge with YOU so you don’t make the same mistakes. Why waste your time and money on sandals that suck…right?

So what sandals should we be saying HELL YES to? I am 100% down for those slide sandals, although I probably won’t be taking them to the pool (re: the Adidas pool slides).

The Chloe slide sandals had a huge moment last year. And yes, they are cool, but I promise there’s other options out there that won’t make you look like you’re part of the Chloe cult.

And going along with the “overdone sandals” category, I would also include the Isabel Marant Holden slides (and what is it about her footwear that we just can’t avoid?!)

And we can’t forget about the Birkenstock revival…which of any super on-trend sandals, I’d go for these (and the OGs, not any designer version). Don’t get me wrong, I’m a fan of all these styles (regardless of how trendy they are), but as you’ll see at the end of this post, there are a ton of other cool slide sandals you can get your hands on that are simple, but not boring, and you won’t necessarily see them on every single blogger.

I’m also on board with the platform sandal, which Ancient Greek Sandals does oh-so-well. Actually they just do all footwear oh-so-well. Hands down my favorite brand when it comes to flat sandals.

Styles I would avoid? I’ve already voiced my opinion towards gladiator sandals so we won’t dive into that any further. I think a thong sandal (especially one with a backstrap) will always be around, but there are much cooler styles now where I don’t think these are necessary. Rubber sandals are always a terrible idea, as you will end up with blisters (it’s basically a guarantee). And lastly I would find sandals with a nice balance of material. Sometimes the straps can be too thin (therefore break easily) and then there are styles that are just too clunky, which are rarely flattering on anyone.

Now of course these are just my general rules I like to follow when it comes to open toe flat footwear…as it’s what I’ve figured out over the years. Something I just figured out while putting together this post? That I’m definitely going to try this whole Fall clothing + summer sandals sort of look when the weather cools down. It makes no sense when you think about it, but at the same time it totally does. As long as your toes aren’t freezing, I say give it a go!

What do you think? Do you have a go-to style when it comes to flat sandals? Any favorite brands? If you’ve tried Ancient Greek Sandals, what do you think?
