Remember I mentioned in my previous post about some throwback Chanel pieces last night? This was another one (although you can barely tell from the way it was styled for Fall 2013). Clearly the girl loves her overly sparkly Chanel (re: Golden Globes) but of all the couture Chanel you could wear to the Met Gala, this is what you go with? Come on. (Love the bag though!)

Remember when she didn’t dress like a disaster on the red carpet? Those were the good old days…

Miley Cyrus in Alexander Wang

I’m all for showing little back, some leg, maybe even a hint of side boob…but I’m not so down with the exposed hip bone thing. If the side cut-outs were higher (although I’m still over them) or absent, I would think this is amazing…because it is a damn cool dress. But as is, I’m not a fan.

Lorde in Calvin Klein

Lorde seems to be pretty good at taking fashion risks on the red carpet, so for the one event of the year where taking a risk almost always pulls off, I have no idea why she would opt for something so simple. Disappointing.

Is the hair an attempted tribute to Anna Wintour or something? It looks like Suri cut it while she was sleeping. And the dress? Sub par at best.

Like I mentioned, I’m always curious to see how celebrities will interpret the Met Ball theme each year. GMJ took it quite literally last night and it totally works for this event, but I just liked how others did it better.

Opposite of Georgia May Jagger, here’s an interpretation of the theme where you’re just like WHOA (in a good way). With all of the colors and prints and the knot with the off-the-shoulder detail and the slit front skirt plus the red shoes AND the choker…it should be a lot. But somehow it just all works!

Either someone has worn this dress on the red carpet before or something very similar. It’s nice, but this is one event where you really have to step it up. Plus, her makeup scares me. And how about that fashion girl name, huh?

I’m usually a big fan of Olivia Wilde’s red carpet choices, but this is one of those where I don’t think all of the elements work together (plus I’m not 100% on board with this whole gloves on the red carpet thing just yet). Doesn’t this sort of seem like something Kerry Washington would wear (and not just because it’s Prada…okay maybe a little)?

You know you didn’t bring it to the red carpet when your Atelier Versace gown is outdone by three backs in the background.

I always applaud a dress with pants.

If you ever find yourself in a panic deciding what to wear for a red carpet event and you know you definitely want to take a risk but you don’t know how. I’d say a bra and underwear would do just the trick. I get this. I think it’s cool. There’s a time and place for it. But this isn’t it.
