What Why Where: Shift Into Neutrals

If you look at my personal style posts from a year or so ago, it’s very clear that I used to be all about color. I still love it, don’t get me wrong, but sometimes it’s hard to wear color in fall/winter, as finding warm clothing in brights is no simple task. I used to get frustrated with this but now I just embrace it…as I start to not wear as much color and shift into neutrals (it’s really not that bad!)

When you think of a “neutral outfit” this probably isn’t the first thing that comes to mind, which is sort of the point. So today I’m taking some “ordinary” neutral friends like camel, black and navy for a fun ride…

WHY (am I wearing it):
Like I mentioned earlier, my outfits seem to be moving in this neutral direction with black, white, navy and tan (although the tan thing is only as of very recently). I wanted to show you that wearing all neutral colors doesn’t have to be too simple or boring. Mixing textures and various neutral hues is really all you need to do. Even if you decide to go black on black, just play with different fabrics and you can instantly take your look to the next level. Here, I opted for wool pants (because it’s cold…having nothing to do with texture) and unfortunately I had to wear heels as it would look like I’m wearing sweatpants if I decided otherwise (but not sweatpants in a good way). I guess I haven’t had this much height in a while so it wasn’t such a bad thing. I got the pants and the jacket together at the Rag & Bone store in Miami. I tried them on together so I thought why the hell not wear them at the same time in real life? Because the jacket and the pants are on the looser side, I needed something fitted…and probably the only fitted thing I own is a bodysuit (no bandage dresses in this closet). Bodysuits are tricky because they can easily look like you’re wearing a leotard, so always having something over it like a jacket, vest or even a large necklace (like whatever this fringe situation is I’m wearing here) will make it so you don’t appear to be coming from gymnastics class. Because I, for some reason, felt a little too sophisticated in this camel coat and wool trousers, I had to funk it up a bit which is why the backpack is happening. You might recognize it from this post and you’re right…it is the bag we’ve (or at least I’ve) been waiting for. And last, the hat. No reason for the hat, other than it’s awesome (and my hair was probably greasy that day). Really, a hat makes everything better (sort of like Nutella).
