Tomorrow is a very exciting day…one that’s will soon put me in a place where I eat my body weight in fish and chips, where public transportation is actually efficient and where I pay tribute to the greatest band of all time — the Spice Girls of course.
I’m trying something a little different this year for my fashion week posts. In the past, I’ve done one designer at a time. But because that’s extremely overwhelming (for both you and me), so I decided to take a different approach. I’m going day-by-day for the entire week, also sans-camera (I’m really smart and left my memory card at home in Chicago…but thanks to my trusty iPhone/Instagram and Fashion GPS, we’re all good). After traveling to (and falling in love with) Australia 2 summers ago, I was beyond thrilled to see one of my favorite shopping sites, Moda Operandi, embracing the fashion down under. While I was there, I even had the privilege of checking out an exhibit at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney, all about Australian Fashion Week…which is what truly sparked my interest in Aussie fashion.
Style icon and Moda Operandi Artistic Director Taylor Tomasi Hill was in Australia for fashion week earlier this month and selected her favorites from all of the shows, and they’ve been making an appearance on MO since. There are few websites with the influence Moda Operandi has who celebrate fashion in Australia so it’s pretty great to have the opportunity to shop designers like Josh Goot, Dion Lee, Michael Lo Sordo, Ellery, Ksubi, Manning Cartell, and Camilla and Marc.

Yesterday on The Cut, I was very intrigued by the Fashion Week Preview: 99 Designers Reveal Their Fall 2012 Inspirations story. Who are you most intrigued by?
The “Oscars Designer Challenge 2011” is a competition where nine up-and-coming designers participate to have their original design worn by one of the Awards escorts at the 83rd Academy Awards on Sunday, February 27. The winner is chosen by a public vote on Oscar.com. The winning designer will be announced during the live Oscar pre-show on ABC on February 27th.
In addition to the voting competition, a special webisode series “Oscars Designer Challenge: Behind the Dress,” hosted by Jay Manuel (America’s Next Top Model), chronicles the competition and allows viewers to get to know each of the designers and their designs.
The competing designers are Miriam Cecilia Carlson, Chicago; James De Colon, Chicago; and Borris Powell, Chicago; Katelyn Bischof, New York; Angela Avanesyan, Los Angeles; Octavio Carlin, Los Angeles; Natalia Romano, Los Angeles; Clay Sadler, Los Angeles; and Zoe Hong, Oakland, California
