During fashion month, we talk about three things — 1. the collections (because isn’t that what’s it’s all about?) 2. street style (what happens outside the shows has now become just as important as what happens on the runway, whether we like it or not) and 3. celebrity sightings…but mostly just Kim K’s new platinum hair (Jared too!) The beauty scene doesn’t get as much attention, so today I thought we’d change all that.
Ever see a collection and wonder where it all began? The inspiration? The sketches? If not, it is something to think about. It’s funny when you actually get to hear or see some of the inspiration, you would have never guessed it had anything to do with the collection. Other times, it makes perfect sense. So today, with it being day one of NYFW, we’re going to look at some designers and what inspired their Fall 2015 collections you’ll be seeing this fashion month.
There’s something about men’s clothing that we love…the t-shirts are softer, everything’s a bit big on us (which leaves more room for dessert), and for some reason it feels extra cool to mix in a bit of menswear into our lady closets. But we can’t borrow everything from the boys…
According to Harper’s Bazaar, 2014 was the year of Insta-Fashion Friends and I agree to some extent but it’s not just 2014 and it definitely goes beyond Instagram. Come on…have you ever looked at a street style blog?
Fashion Weeks happen all over the world, but we mostly just pay attention to the big four — New York, London, Paris and Milan (and maybe a few others like Australia and Copenhagen in between). Now did you know there was a Russia Fashion Week (and it’s been going on for 15 years)? Neither did I. But with street style stars like Miroslava Duma and Elena Perminova becoming household names and designers like Ulyana Sergeenko and Vika Gazinskaya on the rise…it’s time we take notice of the fashion happening in Russia.
