Spring 2012 Trend: The New Sheer Skirt

A trend I’ve come across for Spring 2012 is the sheer skirt. However, these aren’t any ordinary sheer skirts; these are more of an illusion…it’s the new sheer skirt. The look of a short dress and a long sheer skirt with intricate detailing at the hem, these are definitely show stopping pieces.

What do you think of this trend for Spring ’12? Do you think it will translate to the street or will it just be something we see on the red carpet? Let me know in the comments section below!

Currently Obsessing Over: Miroslava Duma

I’ve always been intrigued by former Harper’s Bazaar Russia editor Miroslava Duma. I’ve seen her street style photos all over the internet, mostly in the past year or so. But after seeing her in person a few times outside Lincoln Center for the Spring ’12 shows, my obsession was taken to another level. Not only is she stunning but her style just keeps getting better and better. Plus I told her I love her dress (in the orange number below) and she was really sweet about it…she just seems really appreciative of people liking her style, which I think is awesome.

Miroslava is not afraid to take a risk, and she definitely loves color. My kind of girl!

My New York Fashion Week Street Style Looks

I was so excited to find out the other day that I was photographed by Tommy Ton for Style.com on my first day at fashion week in New York! It was even for a special project where you can shop the looks of various street style photos.

Photobucket

Click through American Express Presents NY Street Seen Spotted by Tommy Ton and shop my look on Net-a-Porter here.

And a special thank you to Refinery29 for featuring my Tommy Ton street style snap!

I also ran into my friend Amy Creyer of Chicago Street Style who took my photo with the lovely Karen from Where Did U Get That (who is just as nice as she is stunning).

I’m wearing a Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2011 dress, Balenciaga bag, Chanel shoes, Linda Farrow sunglasses and some temporary Chanel tattoos (yes, they are not real!) Click here for the full post.

I was browsing The Cut, as I do multiple times a day, and I watched the Detail Cam: Jewelry, Sunglasses, and More Spotted at Fashion Week…and what did I see? My Prada Baroque sunglasses! Click below to watch the video (there are some amazing accessories featured!)

My Dolce & Gabbana star dress outfit also made an appearance (even on the home page) of Elle.com!

**UPDATE 9/25

My street style photos and interview are now up on StyleSpotting.com along with Boston-based stylist Christen Mitchell (who was love at first site…in her neon Marc Jacobs skirt & mustard PS1)

See all the photos & interview NYFW: Jena Gambaccini and Christen Mitchell

Overall, I was beyond honored to have these amazing photographers like my outfits enough to photograph me for their blog/website. I dress for me, but it’s always appreciated when others like my outfits too 🙂

Red Carpet Fashion: 2011 Emmy Awards (Part 3)

I promise I’ll leave you alone with Emmys red carpet fashion after this! Be sure to check out part 1 and part 2 of my red carpet commentary and let me know who your best and worst dressed picks in the comments section below!

PhotobucketCobie Smulers in Alberta Ferretti

Although a very standard Alberta Ferretti awards show dress (mostly with regards to the silhouette), it’s beautiful on Cobie and it was really refreshing to see this color on the red carpet.

PhotobucketClaire Danes in Oscar de la Renta

How many times can we see this woman wear a strapless tube gown? She needs to try a different silhouette. Love the dress (but not on her). Not dying over the hair. Hating the makeup.

PhotobucketChristina Hendricks in Johanna Johnson

I’m just going to say what we’re all thinking…it’s time for a reduction. I feel bad but nothing EVER works for her when it comes to red carpet dresses. It looks like her boobs are trying to escape!

PhotobucketCat Deeley in Monique Lhuillier

Pretty. Standard. And pretty standard for Monique Lhuillier.

PhotobucketHeidi Klum in Christian Siriano

I think it’s great Heidi wore a former Project Runway designer’s dress for the Emmys. This dress is VERY Christian Siriano and I really love it on Heidi. It’s out there but I always appreciate a risk. I would have gone with a different shoe but now I’m just getting picky.

Photobucket

Sofia Vergara in Vera Wang

I like how she did something a little less boobalicious for the Emmys but I’m just not feeling it. The color is great but I’m never a fan of one shoulder dresses and the knotted gathering by the knees seems unnecessary. Also thinking the earrings are just a bit much. And a word of advice…nail your red carpet looks before you launch a clothing line (even if it is for Kmart).

PhotobucketSarah Hyland in Christian Siriano

I thought it was cute she collaborated with Christian on this dress. As I mentioned, I don’t love one shoulder dresses but this looks really great on her and it’s perfectly age appropriate (but I could have definitely done without that bracelet!)

PhotobucketNina Dobrev in Donna Karan

Like I’ve said many times, I am not a fan of red dresses (which sucks for me because it seemed like everyone and their mother was wearing red last night). But Nina was the first to be interviewed on the E! red carpet and my jaw just dropped. It goes to show that fit is EVERYTHING. I also love the ruffles at the bottom. She OWNED this look.

PhotobucketMinka Kelly in Dior

Is it just me or is she identical to Leighton Meester? Anyway, she looks great in the dress. It’s not my absolute favorite of the night but we’ve definitely seen worse. However I do like the lace detail and I appreciate when black and navy is done right.

Until the next red carpet event!

Red Carpet Fashion: 2011 Emmy Awards (Part 2)

If you haven’t yet, I highly suggest checking out part 1 of my Emmy red carpet commentary but I’m assuming you’ve been there, done that…so let’s move on shall we?

Photobucket Jane Lynch in David Meister

Not the worst thing I’ve ever seen her wear. The color actually looks good on her, but it’s just so hard for me to take her seriously in a gown. She should just wear tracksuits all the time.

Photobucket Heather Morris

I don’t know who she’s wearing, which is probably a good thing because I may seriously offend this person. This looks like a Project Runway DISASTER. As Heidi would say, auf wiedersehen!

PhotobucketGwyneth Paltrow in Pucci

I have a feeling I will get shit for this, but Gwyneth is one of my best dressed picks for the night. It could have to do with the fact I was bored to tears with the dresses so just seeing this gave me some hope not everyone in television is super boring. It’s different. It may be weird. But I’m kind of weird…and I love this look. Note that I would probably hate this on just about everyone but it works for HER.

PhotobucketGiuliana Rancic in Roberto Cavalli

I’m not the biggest Cavalli fan, just because his dresses are not very tasteful in my eyes. But this is actually beautiful and classy, which works for Giuliana. It’s another red gown but she looks gorgeous in it.

Photobucket Evan Rachel Wood in Elie Saab

Very old Hollywood glam…she looks gorgeous. Not like it’s anything new and original, but it’s pretty and the dress fits her like a glove.

PhotobucketElizabeth Moss in Marchesa

Didn’t Kelly Osbourne make a big deal how Marchesa only dressed ONE person for the Emmys and that ONE person was Lea Michele? Well Kelly…it looks like your sources were incorrect (unless they said Marchesa dressed one person WELL…then they were right).

PhotobucketDianna Agron in Roksanda Ilincic

In my last post I said I liked Katie Holmes’s dress because it wasn’t shiny…and this is exactly what I was comparing it to. Why do people like shiny silk on the red carpet? You have  thousands of dresses to choose from and you pick the most standard material that’s never flattering. I just don’t get it! And ps. I hate the hair.

Who were your best dressed picks for the night? Let me know in the comments section below. And be on the look out for part 3 of my Emmys red carpet commentary coming soon!
