Rebecca Minkoff: The New Minkette For Spring ’13

You may be wondering…why is Rebecca Minkoff’s latest collection about the NEW Minkette? It could be the fact that she’s sportier, perhaps even somewhat of a tomboy (or as Rebecca says, a “sexy tomboy”), or it’s possible that the new Minkette is Ryan Lochte….because he was at the show Friday afternoon.

Whitney Eve Fall 2012

I’m normally not one to support celebrities that have gone designer, but Whitney Port is one of the few doing it right. Her contemporary label, Whitney Eve, has all the elements young girls want to wear. For Fall 2012, she incorporated florals, textured knits, mixed prints and velvet. The silhouettes are feminine, playful and easy to wear which fits perfectly with the day-to-night aesthetic of these looks.

I was standing very close to where Kelly Cutrone herself was calling the show, this was a Peoples Revolution productions of course, and it was cool to see her in action (I’m a big KC fan). A remix of Beyonce’s “Run The World (Girls)” started the show, which was probably some of the most exciting music I heard at any of the Fall 2012 shows. So already I was very pumped to see the clothes.

When it comes to business and design, Whitney seems to know what she’s doing and knows her target market. These are definitely clothes she would wear herself and translate very well for everyday. Here are some of the key looks from Whitney Eve Fall 2012…

Emerson Fall 2012: Dresden Dolls

For Fall 2012, Emerson designer Jackie Fraser-Swan was initially inspired by an antique art piece of a porcelain doll, known as the “Dresden Dolls.” When she found out this originated in Dresden, Germany, which was severely damaged during WWII, she became more and more intrigued, so her research into the 1940s began…and ultimately led to the inspiration for her latest collection.

Some further ideas that are incorporated into Emerson’s Fall 2012 collection include: the black and white images of the WWII aftermath, women’s roles changing and heading into the work force and their development of style, beauty and independence. I love both the masculine and feminine elements of this collection along with the color palette. I’m a sucker for purple, which was one of the main colors seen throughout this collection, and shown with the grey print was a really great combination.

Pamella Roland Fall 2012: Aspen Landscapes

Aspen has always been the “home away from home” for Pamella Roland and her family, which is why she chose the city’s iconic landscapes as her inspiration for Fall 2012. Combining femininity and a strong fashion edge, this collection features soft blends, strucutred silks, metallics and subtle jacquards. Pamella Roland is known for her evening gowns, but she still comes through with luxurious separates that are perfect for layering.

For the first time since the label’s launch, she showed both real and faux fur which I thought was a nice touch. My favorite part about this particular collection is that that the production of the actual runway show was spot on with Pamella’s inspiration. The lighting above the runway resembled snow-touched branches, and just as the lights went out before the first girl walked the runway, gusts of wind played throughout the speakers and actually gave me the chills!
