Humor Me

It seems like designers are no longer taking things too seriously. And I have to say…it’s about damn time. The Fall 2014 runways were full of humor and it’s official — this might be my favorite trend ever. Of course you’ll never find SpongeBob accessories at Chloe or Rick Owens, but it’s nice to get some funny fashion in our lives.

Some of the most memorable collections that incorporated a bit of humor for next season include Ostwald Helgason, Moschino and Rodarte (pictured above). That apple peel t-shirt is genius. Jeremy Scott really took it to another level for Moschino FW14 — still got that black and gold classic Moschino vibe mixed in with American culture (Hershey gown or McDonalds handbag, anyone?) And I never thought I’d see a Star Wars reference at Rodarte but sure enough, the Mulleavy sisters never seem to disappoint. Even Phillip Lim got in on the action for Fall accessories (which may look familiar if you’re a frequent visitor to CCF Loves).

Now this isn’t the first time I’ve discussed a stylish sense of humor (remember 1991?) but that was just one specific brand making a funny for a living. Clearly they’re ahead of their time because now it seems like having a sense of humor is either a new direction fashion is moving in or perhaps just a short-lived trend. Although I’m hoping it’s not too short-lived because this is hands down my favorite thing to wear!

And this is just a small sampling. I’d say my closet is pretty damn funny.

The designers I look to first for their sense of humor are Markus Lupfer and Ashish as well as Charlotte Olympia for quirky accessories. Now I’m not saying I’m rolling over laughing at every piece, but it’s nice to shop and have a little chuckle. Don’t you?

If you could use a smile today (or permanently in your wardrobe…)
