What’s In Your Bag?

We’ve all read those “what’s in my bag” types of features (and I’m guilty for writing them) but today, we’re taking that idea in a bit of a different direction.

But first, let’s briefly discuss this obsession with the contents in one’s handbag. It’s such a practical thing — as we all carry a handbag with probably the same items in it every single day — yet we’re fascinated by what other people have in theirs (sort of like how I want to know what’s in everyone’s grocery basket…new CCF feature, perhaps?) As I’ve mentioned previously, I carry a much smaller bag than I used to so I’ve learned to really edit. It’s rare when I have more than a tube of Dr. Hauschka lip care stick (as I refuse to suffer from chapped lips), eyedrops (thanks contacts), my little Comme de Garcons wallet (that’s basically just a card case #LivingTheCashFreeLife), blotting papers (because oil…duh) and my phone. And keys I guess, so I can…you know…not be locked out of my apartment. But it looks like I might be alone on this one as seen by the overflowing handbags below.

Can you guess what fashion girl is behind each of these bags?

If you guessed Nicole Richie, Emily Ratajkowski, Candice Swanepoel and Amber Valletta in that order…then you’re seriously genius. Is there anything they carry that you do too and you’re currently having one of those Stars…They’re Just Like Us! moments?

But when it comes to fashion week in particular, which starts today might I add, what’s in your bag might change just a bit. You’re gone all day and most likely all night. You might not have time to go home and change. So having things like a different pair of shoes, extra jewelry, a phone charger and / or snacks in your purse, isn’t exactly out of the ordinary (although snacks in my purse is kind of ordinary).

Now here’s the real kicker. What happens when YOU go to fashion week (or anywhere, regardless of its fashionability) and you have to find somewhere for your furry friends to vacay? (and if you don’t have a furry friend yet, I suggest you start looking here). Well I’m SO GLAD you asked.

It’s not easy to ask a friend to watch your dog (or in my case 110 lbs worth of dogs…65 lbs of which is completely deaf) for any length of time. Everyone works. People live busy lives. And what pup wants to spend their vacation at a boarding facility? So let me introduce to you — Dogvacay.

And what’s a vacation without a special edition of…WHAT’S IN MY BAG? If you’re thinking I’m a crazy dog mom for doing a what’s in my bag post about my dogs / their travel arrangements, you are correct and it’s indeed happening.

I’d never let Lennox leave home without his favorite chew toys (mostly his dad’s shoe) all packed up in an Illesteva backpack.

And Laz would kill me if I let him go a day without peanut butter or a Himalayan bone…in a Kara two-tone backpack, naturally.

Now if you’re thinking, where are the cutest dogs you’ve ever seen in your life going to stay? And how do they feel about it? Trust me. I’d be thinking the same thing. What’s super cool about Dogvacay is that you can easily find trustworthy people in your neighborhood that work with your pup’s lifestyle. You schedule a meet and greet, book everything online AND the best part? You get daily photo updates of your pooch enjoying a “vacay” their own…which is a non-negotiable thing when it comes to my boys (mostly because I could just stare at pictures of them all day, which is why this exists). Second best part? Even if you don’t have dogs but are a dog lover, you have to check out the sitter profiles — Puptopia? East Lakeview Belly Rub Hub? Old Town Bed & Biscuit? Love these people already (and you don’t even have to live in Chicago to use the service…they have sitters across the US / Canada). And if you don’t have a dog but want to hang out with them and make money doing so, you can sign up and be a sitter yourself. Who knows? Maybe you’ll end up watching Laz & Lennox next time the bf and I take our own vacay 🙂

So now it’s your turn [to make fun of me for being so dog obsessed, because I deserve it]. But really…it’s your turn to share what you can’t live without in your bag, perhaps what you’ll be adding to those must-haves if you’re attending any fashion weeks this year and / or WHAT’S IN YOUR DOG’S BAG? Come on, I can’t be the only crazy dog mom out there.

PS. Dogvacay is offering first time users (that happen to be CCF readers) one free day or night of their service! Going on an overnight trip? Just want a dog-free date night? Enter CHICITYFASHION at checkout (valid through 10/31/15).
